Wireframe-Method Ergonomic Mouse

Overview
This was the first project I built using the wireframe method — defining a form through a skeleton of guide curves and then lofting surfaces across them, rather than stacking extrudes and fillets.
The goal was a mouse shell that feels resolved in the hand: continuous transitions, no visible seams between the palm rest and the flanks, and a silhouette that reads as a single sweep from any angle.
Choosing a consumer object was deliberate. Ergonomic shapes hide nothing — any discontinuity in curvature shows up immediately as a highlight break, so it forced me to build clean geometry from the start.

Curves before surfaces
I laid out the profile and section curves first and resolved the overall stance in wireframe before creating a single face. Getting the guide curves tangent and proportional up front meant the surfaces lofted cleanly instead of fighting the geometry later.

Curvature over corners
Every transition targets curvature continuity, not just tangency. Zebra-stripe evaluation drove several rebuilds of the flank surface until the reflections flowed unbroken across the top and down the sides.

Designing for the hand
The palm crown and thumb relief were tuned against a reference grip so the high point sits under the palm and the sides taper for the fingertips — form following the ergonomic constraint rather than the modeling convenience.

What I learned
Time spent perfecting the wireframe is repaid many times over once you start surfacing — a clean skeleton makes clean skin.
Curvature continuity is a discipline, not a checkbox: reflection analysis catches problems the eye rationalizes away.
Next time I would build the underside and parting line in parallel with the top so the shell is manufacturable, not just beautiful.
